The 4 Tenets of Data & Analytics

4 tenets of Data and Analytics

How do you know if your organization is on the business intelligence path in utilizing data?

Data is informative, ubiquitous, sexy, and can be frustrating. Depending upon the situation, stakeholder, and even down to the implementation, it can hold the future of business strategy.

With that said, there is a lot at stake when it comes to data, from how its cultivated to how its interpreted to an audience.

Here are some guiding principles for Data and Analytics along with what questions each of the tenets solve in the path to strategic planning:

  1. Collect:
    1. How is your data being collected and where is it?
    2. How will you ensure the data is correct? If the data is incorrect, what steps need to be made to correct it?
  2. Visualize:
    1. Who is the audience?
    2. What data points need to be displayed?
    3. What is the best method for visualization with the data available
  3. Analyze:
    1. What is the story being conveyed?
    2. How will the data be organized?
    3. What story is the data telling you?
  4. Activate:
    1. What are the strengths and opportunities that arise from the data?
    2. Who are the stakeholders who can enact change?
    3. What are the next steps for the stakeholders?
